Find/Locate/Seek

우리는 모두 "찾다" 또는 "구하다" 로 퉁치는데 영미권에서는 좀더 세분화 되어 있는듯 하다.

 

(1) Find : discover or locate something that is previously unknown, missed, or hidden.

>> 가장 넒은 의미로 "찾다"가 되는듯.

 

ex) Go straight. Then you will find the gas station easily.

 

(2) Seek : try to obtain or achieve

>> 무엇을 얻으려고 노력하는 쪽에 가까워서 무언가를 "구하다"에 더 근접한것 같다.

 

ex) I think you need to seek medical advice right now.

 

(3) Locate : find a place or position of something

>> 특정 위치를 알아내는것 또는 위치시키는 것.

 

ex) I can not locate the nearest gas station. Can you show me the way to the nearest one?

 

* try to : attempt or effort to accomplish something (그냥 노력하는거, 시도하는거)

ex) She tried to solve the puzzle but couldn't figure it out

 

* seek to : attempt or effort to accomplish something towards a specific goal or objective (목적을 두고 "꽤 열심히" 노력하는거)

ex) She seeks to improve her language skills by practicing every day

 

** 위 예시에서 당연히 seek을 try로 바꿀수 있는데, 이렇게 되면 뉘앙스가 '단순히' 노력한게 되고, "seek"을 사용하면 부단히 목적을 위해 노력한게 됨 **
