Bully, Torment, Tease, Taunt, Aggrieve

주변 사람들을 괴롭히고 놀리는 단어들을 모아보았다.

 

(1) Bully :  intimidate, oppress, or  threaten them, often through physical or verbal aggression. 

>> 겁주고 협박하면서 괴롭히는.. 흔히 생각할 수 있는 학교 일진들이 아이들을 괴롭히는 형태의 "괴롭힘"을 의미. 따라서 주로 학생들 사이에서 또는 젊은 사람들 사이에서 많이 쓰이는 단어인듯?

 

ex) The principal called out his name because he was bullying other students

 

(2) Tease : making fun of someone or lightly mocking them in a playful or good-natured manner

>> 친구들 사이에서 서로 놀리는 행위

 

ex) I am not teasing you. I just wanted to tell you the truth.

 

(3) Torment : cause severe physical or mental suffering to someone. It implies a prolonged and intense form of suffering

>> (보통 지속적이고, 강도가 높은 ) 정신적, 육체적으로 고통을 주는 행위. 성인들 사이에서 서로 고통을 주는 행위에서 많이 쓰일듯 하다.

 

 

ex) People living under our floor told us that they had been tormented by noise from our house.

 

(4) Taunt : to say insulting things to (someone) in order to make that person angry

>> 모욕적인 말을 해서 상대방을 기분나쁘게 하는 행위 

 

ex) He kept claiming that he had been taunted by his friend's remarks.

 

(5) Aggrieve : To aggrieve someone is to cause them grief, distress, or suffering, especially by unfair or unjust treatment.

>> Torment와 유사한듯 한데 보다 "정신적" 고통에 포커스가 맞춰있는듯 하다.
